The Congress of North American Bosniaks (CNAB) and the Institute for Research of genocide, Canada (IRGC) condemn in strongest possible terms the airing of the Serbian nationalist propaganda movies, “The Town that was Sacrificed” and “Traces of Sarajevo” on the Swedish national Television. We demand that the Swedish national TV apologizes to the victims of genocide who currently live in Sweden. Denying genocide is the second stage of denying victims of the genocide the right to justice and committing another genocide. Both movies are continuation of the hatred filled Serbian nationalist propaganda from the darkest pages of European history, which resulted in four wars in the Balkans and caused immeasurable death and destruction to millions. We hold the Swedish national Television accountable for airing these despicable lies on the national television.
As a reminder the war crimes committed by Serbian forces in Bosnia, resulted in genocide against the Bosniak people and mass murder of innocent civilians, including children, women and elderly on a scale not seen since the Holocaust in Europe, with over 100,000 dead civilians, 50,000 raped women, thousands of sacred and historic monuments destroyed, and more than a million displaced from their homes.
Recently arrested war criminal Gen. Mladic, who has been hiding for 16 years, directly commanded, as the general of the Main Staff, the Bosnian Serb army during the invasion of UN “safe area” Srebrenica in July 1995, resulting in the genocide and murder of more than 8,000 Bosniak civilians and expulsion of more than 30,000 others. Former commander of the Serb paramilitaries currently before the International Criminal Tribunal is charged with orchestrating genocide not only at Srebrenica, but also in a number of other Bosnian municipalities: Bratunac, Foča, Ključ, Kotor Varoš, Prijedor, Sanski Most, Vlasenica and Zvornik. He is charged with the crimes committed during the three year long siege of Sarajevo.
Another war criminal Radovan Karadzic, currently on trial at the Hague war crimes tribunal authorized the attack on Srebrenica. The arrest and trial of both will hopefully give some peace to the families of those who were killed and whose lives have been destroyed.
We demand that Swedish Television immediately apologizes for the mistake and stop airing this Serbian propaganda.
