Your Esteemed Excellency,
RE: The Mobile Multimedia Campaign Kick off in NYC, initiated on July 11-12, 2026 in service of denial of Srebrenica Genocide of July 11, 1995.
On behalf of the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada, and Bosnian American community of North America in New York City, we are writing to express to Your Excellency our deep concern regarding mobile multimedia campaign in service of denial of Bosnia Genocide 1992-1995 with culmination in Srebrenica on July 11, 1995.
Namely, on July 11-12, 2026 a mobile campaign vehicles (two so far) with the alleged affiliation to lesser Bosnian entity RS have appeared on the streets of New York with the messaging that, to uninformed observer, communicates denial of Srebrenica Genocide, denial of numerous and existing verdicts of the International Criminal Court, denial of the verdicts of the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, and every forensic fact that has been publicly made available to the wide world.
Our concern is this: The timing (on July 11) and location (in front of United Nations, and in Manhattan) of these mobile multimedia displays are particularly painful. They occurred on weekend, as Bosnian American families prepared to welcome guests to various commemorative events, in the neighbourhoods that are home to a significant part of New York’s Bosnian and Muslim community. While traditional Bosnian Srebrenica Genocide commemorative event did not get city’s permit for July 11, 2026, these trucks with misleading, Srebrenica Genocide denying messaging received a permit to deny just judicial verdicts and spread revisionist propaganda.
Given the painful scars and memory of Srebrenica Genocide, the implicit denialism and revisionist nature of this mobile campaign not only encourages denial of Srebrenica Genocide, violates rights of North American Bosnian survivors to mourn their lost ones just because they are of Bosnian descent, refugees from Srebrenica, survivors of genocide, or simply bear a Muslim name, but further promotes Islamophobia and encourages intolerance.
We fully recognize and respect the everyone’s right to free expression. We are not asking the global community to regulate political viewpoints or silence lawful, respectful speech. We are asking that the truth be said and our painful history be remembered fairly, consistently, and without exception.
We thank Your Excellency for taking the time to read this letter and make sure there is no space on North American continent for denial of Srebrenica Genocide of July I1, 1995; over 8300 Bosnian citizens murdured; and their remains denied dignified, complete burial to this day.
