VICTORY OVER CULTURECIDE – DO NOT FORGET, REMEMBER, WARN

The night when Vijecnica was on fire  – The Night of culturecide

Vijecnica has become synonymous culturecide in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Vijecnica is the guardian of cultural- historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but for some is an eyesore when it comes to continuity of statehood and statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Her treasures are written documents millennial history of the state in the troubled Balkans. In the night between 25 and 26 August 1992 Vijecnica was held with a fund of about three million different documents. In just one night the fire destroyed about 90 percent of the library fund that library has collected, cataloged stored and given to the use to the people for nearly half a century. Vijecnica is a symbol of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and human civilization. Vijecnica synthesizes the history of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, man and civilization. Restoration of Vijecnica and its new opening  is the message and lesson to all aggressors on Bosnia and Herzegovina and all creators and perpetrators of genocide against its citizens that the idea of Bosnia and Bosnian spirit still managed to defeat evil and fascism. Those who burned Vijecnica, those who stormed the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, those who were killing children in these assaults, actually burned and destroyed the idea of Bosnia and Bosnian Spirit, and thus burned and destroyed the history, culture, tradition, and human civilization. Because of these barbaric, anti-civilizational, anti-human crimes of aggression and genocide destroyers of Bosnia and Herzegovina will forever remain in the junkyard of history.

On the anniversary of the barbaric act of ignition of Vijecnica we once again remind  that fascism has not been defeated in World
