The Canadian Olympic city declared July 11 the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide
Olympic Calgary, a sister city of Sarajevo since 1986, declared July 11 as the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica, announced the Canadian Genocide Research Institute, with thanks to this Canadian city.
” The IGK expresses its deep appreciation and gratitude for the decision made by Calgary. By declaring July 11 the Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide, Calgary sent a message of solidarity with the victims and their families who are still grieving the loss of their loved ones ,” the IGK announced.The statement also points out that Srebrenica “serves as a reminder to think about historical injustice” and that we owe it to the victims and future generations to remember Srebrenica and to ensure that it never happens again.
” Thank you to Calgary for contributing to the culture of remembrance and for showing that the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica have not been forgotten ,” says the Institute.
