THE CANADIAN PROVINCE OF NOVA SCOTIA JOINED THE COMMEMORATION OF THE 29th ANNIVERSARY OF THE GENOCIDE IN SREBRENICA.

The Institute For Research of Genocide Canada received a letter from the office of the premier of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia Tim Houston. The letter, among other things, says:

“The war in BiH left many without a safe haven. Nova Scotia was among those Canadian provinces that welcomed refugees during this difficult period in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s history. I’m aware that the hard work of the Institute for research of genocide Canada has resulted in the Canadian Parliament unanimously passed a historic resolution recognizing April as Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month in 2015. In addition, in 2010 the Canadian Parliament unanimously adopted a Resolution sponsored by Member of Parliament, Brian Masse, establishing Srebrenica Genocide Remembrance Day in Canada.

We admire the continued dedication of the Institute for research of genocide Canada to raising awareness of the Srebrenica genocide in Canada. Nova Scotia respects that the Parliament of Canada is the most important body for commemorating the genocide in Srebrenica on behalf of all Canadians. That’s why Nova Scotia is joining the commemoration on the 29th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, Canada. It will be an honor for us to mark and commemorate that day with you and all Canadians.”

• Director of the Institute for research of genocide Canada, Emir Ramic, thanked the Prime Minister of Nova Scotia, Tim Houston, and wrote:

“It’s our collective responsibility to remember the genocide in Srebrenica and take action to prevent current and future atrocities. It’s very important that you join Canada’s unique and significant culture of remembrance of the genocide in Srebrenica to honor the victims and survivors, reflect on the past and promote awareness for a better future. By commemorating together, we strengthen our determination to educate and advocate for a future without hatred and violence”.
