All Mosques in Canada Commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide

All mosques in Canada commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide

This Friday, July 10, in hundreds of the mosques across Canada, Imams will address 25th anniversary of Srebrenica genocide that took place in 1995, July 11, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, committed by the Serb forces in the war that lasted from 1992-95. This was made possible thanks to national Canadian Council of Imams (CCI) who embraced the initiative from the Bosnian Muslim associations and mosques, Institute for research of genocide Canada, and other Muslim activists. The summary with the facts on Srebrenica genocide was provided by prof Emir Ramic from the Institute for research of genocide and facilitated with the talking points for khutbah to the CCI members by Imam Adnan Balihodzic from Bosnian Islamic Association ‘Gazi Husrev beg’ in Toronto. It’s worth noting that this year coincides also with 75th anniversary of the Holocaust.

According to Canada’s 2011 National Household Survey, there were 1,053,945 Muslims in Canada, or about 3.2%, of the population, making Islam the second largest religion in the country after Christianity.
