PETITION, APPEAL AND INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVE
For the Immediate Full Membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the NATO Alliance!
“If you love us, if you have repented, why don’t you admit us into the EU, why don’t you admit us into NATO? That is where we belong—not in this darkness.” – Munira Subašić, Potočari, July 11, 2025
In the name of historical responsibility, universal moral principles, and the collective obligation to never again allow genocide to occur, we, the undersigned, issue a clear, unequivocal, and urgent political appeal: Bosnia and Herzegovina must be granted full NATO membership at the upcoming Alliance summit.
The genocide in Srebrenica was not an isolated incident or a tragic exception. It was the culmination of institutional collapse, political indifference, and international paralysis. That crime happened not because the world didn’t know, but because the world failed to act.
Twenty-eight years later, Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to face the same political forces that once denied its existence, incited violence, and systematically undermined its sovereignty. Convicted war criminals are glorified in public institutions. Genocide denial remains present in official rhetoric. Open secessionist threats and state-level obstructionism gravely endanger regional peace and stability.
For these reasons, we believe that NATO membership for Bosnia and Herzegovina is not merely a legitimate aspiration—it is a civilizational imperative.
NATO may not represent perfect justice, but today, it remains the only credible guarantee of real security—of a determined, united, and organized defense of the international order. It symbolizes the collective responsibility to ensure that no country is left unprotected, and no people left undefended.
In a world where aggression, ethnonationalism, and revisionism are once again on the rise, Bosnia and Herzegovina must not remain a buffer zone of interests, nor a space for geopolitical experimentation. It must become a permanent anchor of stability—with security guarantees that cannot be diluted.
We therefore call on:
– NATO member states to recognize the specific historical context and current political reality of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to see full membership as an investment in regional peace and global security;
– The European Union to avoid strategic ambivalence towards the Western Balkans through deeper coordination with NATO;
– The High Representative and international institutions to act proactively—not reactively—in the spirit of “never again”;
– Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina of all ethnicities and beliefs to support this appeal as a shared vision for a safe, democratic, and indivisible state.

The time for a decision is now. The time for protection is now. The time for NATO is now.
Bosnia and Herzegovina must be protected—now and forever.
Bosnia and Herzegovina must be protected—now and forever.
