Dear Nadia, John, and Sarah,
Thank you for the productive meeting yesterday and for providing additional information for our requests.
For clarification and speeding up the process, we have drafted and attached a letter that can be shared with Mayor Parrish, her staff, and the City Council.
This official letter summarizes all of our requests for this year into one document. The letter has been signed by Dr. Emir Ramić, the Director of the Institute for the Research of Genocide Canada. In the letter, we have also included:
The draft motion declaring the day of July 11 as Srebrenica Remembrance Day. We have added an example of the language that can be used based on the Motion 416 introduced and passed in the Canadian House of Commons in 2009, which officially recognized July 11th as Srebrenica Remembrance Day in Canada.
Request for the raising of the flag on the Bosnian Statehood Day (November 25th)
Request for lightning the clock tower in blue (the official colour code used in the Bosnian flag has been included)
We realize there are other requests that we have discussed during our call, namely the building of the monument in one of the local parks, applying for a street name in remembrance of the Srebrenica genocide and holding of a vigil on July 11, but currently the top priorities are those outlined in the letter. We look forward to working with your team on these topics in the near future.
Thank you once again. We appreciate your support and guidance.
