April is Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month in Canada
Denial of genocide, according to the scholars and the authorities of Holocaust and genocide, is the last stage of genocide, which always accompanies that gravest form of crimes against humanity and international law and it can last long after the genocide. Denial of genocide is a valid and reliable indicator, which suggests that the genocide is committed. Denial has different motives: ideological, strategic, socio-political and others, whereas the consequences for the victims are always tragic. Denial of genocide is a crime of genocide, which takes place in two stages: during the commission and after the commission. Denial aims to willfully and intentionally forges the facts, especially in relation to causes, objective and the character of war (insisting on a civil war instead of international armed conflict), and the nature of crime (insisting on “ethnic cleansing”, instead of genocide); equalizing genocide perpetrators and victims; intentionally misinform and deceive the domestic and international public; suggest the existence of several parties and their equal guilt and responsibility; evade responsibility for genocide; show the perpetrators as heroes, who allegedly fight for a just cause; encourage genocide; demonizes victims and show them as the perpetrators of crimes; conceal, minimizes, relativize the genocide, especially the fact on the number and the status of victims, while minimizing the planned and systematic massive and individual murders; maintain the genocidal ideology, politics, and practice.
The genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina together with several other genocides in the 20th century will be commemorated and studied every year in the month of April, which is the month set aside for remembering and fighting against genocide. Scientific knowledge obtained through scientific research of genocide and other forms of crimes against humanity and international law, in addition to scientific contribution, acts directly in building, maintaining and development of peace, freedoms and rights, solidarity – in one word all the declared principles and values in the highest ranking documents of the United Nations, whose recognition and building into the foundations of human society secures the development of better and fair world, the ideal of the modern civilization and culture.
Institute for Research of Genocide Canada (IGC) as an independent scientific research institute of Canada, at the same time raises its voice against genocide and sends a message that will influence and affect the consciousness of the world’s leaders in order to save the humanity and civilization, preserve the human values, human freedom, human rights and the lives of small, weak and powerless groups, human communities and nations. Present and future generations of all previous crimes of genocide must finally, in the interest of the future of the world and civilization, draw a historical lesson on the need to strengthen, develop and unify all human power, regardless of national, ethnic, racial, religious, ideological or political affiliation and commitment the strategy of prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide.The idea for the establishment of IGC, is the need to differently promote the culture of memories that should be an integral part of the Bosnian national being, which together with the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina defended the aggression and genocide. This culture of memory implies that the greatest crime in Europe since the Holocaust should reflect the use of science and research, because the struggle against revisionist history is not only possible emotions. Only scientific research findings may be permanent basis for the development of our abilities to detect, identify, Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, in which researchers’ genocide have historical role and responsibility. The researchers must have professional responsibility and sufficient moral courage to research and share with the public the scientific truths about genocide. IGC seeks to influence the consciousness of people and their collectivity of understanding the need to combine all human power to fight genocide regardless of where and at what time they occurred. Total activity IGC comes to scientific truth, which is timely and adequately to the public, which warns of a number of genocide as one of the possible forms of adequate preventive strategic activities. IGC has reduced the space numerous lies, forgeries and falsifiers of history, and impact on awareness, behavior, statements and acting of individuals, certain social actors and social groups that deny or deny the genocide. Leading up to the idea of a small group of about IGC is constantly growing, so now in addition to the Board of Directors we have the international expert team, which brings together more than 100 of the most eminent experts in the world in the field of human rights and freedoms. By forming IGC we seek to influence the consciousness of people and their collectives in Canada, North America and beyond the understanding of the need to combine all human power to fight genocide regardless of where and at what time they occurred.
