VUJIĆ OPENLY MOCKS THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE WESTERN POWERS ON THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE

Mr. Bojan Vujić, the Permanent Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the United Nations Office at Geneva, addressed the UN Human Rights Council by mocking the international high representative and unnamed foreign actors.

Mr. Vujić portrays Christian Schmidt in an extremely negative light, characterizing him as an illegitimate figure who has unlawfully assumed power and is wielding dictatorial authority. Mr. Vujić literally said: “The last legitimately appointed HR left BIH in 2021, and the UN Security Council, the only body with authority to approve the appointment of an HR, failed to approve a successor. Despite this, a retired German politician named Christian Schmidt arrived in BIH, shortly thereafter falsely claiming to be the new HR.”

Schmidt is depicted as promulgating decrees without regard for democratic or legal legitimacy, thereby destabilizing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s political landscape. His actions are described as an infringement upon BIH’s democratic constitutional system and a violation of fundamental human rights under international law.

Furthermore, Mr. Vujić accuses Schmidt of attempting to criminalize non-compliance with his decrees, marking a dangerous escalation in foreign repression and effectively transforming BIH into a police state under the rule of an unelected German autocrat.

In his depiction of Christian Schmidt, Mr. Vujić adopts a tone of ridicule and criticism, presenting Schmidt in an overwhelmingly negative light. This portrayal highlights accusations of Schmidt’s perceived illegitimacy, authoritarian inclinations, and apparent disregard for democratic values and human rights.

Mr. Vujić made fun of the international high representative by calling him a retired German politician and a German despot.

By ridiculing High Representative Schmidt at the United Nations, Mr. Vujić undermines the credibility and legitimacy of the institution of the High Representative, which plays a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Additionally, it reflects a perceived weakness of Western influence in the region, as evidenced by Mr. Vujić’s ability to openly mock a representative of Western powers on the international stage. This could potentially have repercussions for the peace and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as it may embolden dissenting factions and undermine efforts to maintain order and cooperation within the country.

The fact that Mr. Vujić is able to make fun of High Representative Schmidt in the UN shows the present weakness of the West in Bosnia and Herzegovina, writes the Canadian Genocide Research Institute in response.
